from The PEAL Starch Cleaning Guru
Spray starch helps keep your clothes crisp and neat, but it wreaks havoc on your Teflon iron. After several applications of spray starch to your laundry during the ironing process, it is inevitable that the melting starch will stick to your iron. If you are a frequent user of spray starch, you should print these instructions and keep them handy as you’ll need to clean your iron every few months.
Instructions for cleaning your iron from the effects of spray starch:
First, make sure that your iron is turned off and that it is cool. Apply a small amount of white vinegar onto a clean, soft cloth and rub vigorously to remove the sticky starch residue.
Second, mix the white vinegar with baking soda to make a paste. Use the cloth to apply to the Teflon surface and continue scrubbing the goo. If the cloth is not sufficiently removing the gunk, use a soft nylon sponge to scrub the gunk. When the starch residue is removed, rinse the paste off the iron bottom.
Lastly, turn the iron on its hottest setting and iron an old shirt or plain newspaper to ensure that the sticky mess is completely removed.
PEAL Starch recommends the use of their concentrated laundry starch that is added to your washing machine’s rinse cycle instead of messy spray starch. PEAL Starch’s concentrated laundry starch will save you time, money and the aggravation of cleaning sticky starch gunk off your iron.
